"Open air group circuit training sessions, warm weather training in Cyprus, weekend walking in the Brecons, run club, 10k races and weight training – I’ve done it all over the last couple of years since I joined Smart Sports. It’s one of the best decisions I’ve made and it has been a positive, life changing experience for me.
In weekly personal training sessions, I’ve walked on top of steeplechase hurdles, balanced on fitballs, jumped in and out of low obstacles, caught, kicked and thrown rugby balls, footballs and bean bags. I’ve played ‘boules’ with medicine balls and attempted to hit baseballs and tennis balls. I’ve run in the dark over all sorts of surfaces and I’ve even run with my eyes shut to learn to trust myself – all exercises specifically tailored for me to improve my confidence, balance and spatial awareness (I have a slight visual impairment). Great fun, but then there’s the more serious stuff too: upper and lower body exercises, abs work, run training and drills, nutritional advice, goal setting and homework.
Ray is an experienced and committed trainer and his firm encouragement, dedication and enthusiasm is infectious. He demands no less a commitment from his clients, all of whom he treats as serious athletes, and it’s challenging, exhausting, but so rewarding. Progress sometimes feels slow but then you achieve a personal best and you realise just how far you’ve come. "
